What Browser Uses The Least RAM?

Do you ever become frustrated with how much your computer slows down when multiple browsers are open? You’re not alone. It seems like every time I switch browsers, my computer starts lagging.

So, I did some research to find the browser that uses the least amount of RAM and is still a viable option for surfing the web.

And I have to admit that gathering all of the information wasn’t that easy, however, after hours of research, I got to a point to answer What browser uses the least RAM.

Although you have to keep into account that different browsers use different amounts of RAM to cater to their wide array of demographic. And obviously, some browsers require less memory than others, making them better for older or low-powered computers.

So let’s take a brief look,

A Couple Of Things To Keep In Mind

When it comes to finding a browser that doesn’t use up too much RAM, there are a few things you need to consider. The first is whether you want a browser that’s lightweight or one that uses more resources but offers more features.

The second is what kind of devices you plan on using the browser with. If you have a powerful computer, then you can get away with using a resource-hungry browser like Google Chrome.

But if you’re using an older computer or a mobile device, then you’ll want to stick with something lighter.

Finally, it’s important to keep in mind that different browsers will use different amounts of RAM depending on what websites you have open.

So, if you find that one browser is using more RAM than another, it may just be because of the sites you have open in each respective browser.

What Browser Uses The Least RAM

With all of that being said, let’s take a look at some of the best lightweight browsers that use the least amount of RAM.

Opera Browser

One of the best lightweight browsers out there is Opera. This browser has long been known for being fast and efficient, Its RAM usage percentage is significantly lower than that of other browsers, and it’s still packed with features.

Opera is based on Chromium, so it has many of the same features as Chrome. But it also has some unique features of its own, like a built-in VPN and a data-saver mode that compresses images and videos on websites to help you save data.

If you’re looking for a lightweight browser that’s packed with features, Opera is definitely worth checking out.

Vivaldi Browser

Another good option for a low-resource browser is Vivaldi. This browser was created by the co-founder of Opera, and it shares much of the same DNA as its predecessor.

Vivaldi is a feature-rich browser that comes with even when compared to other lightweight browsers.

Slimjet Browser

Another great option when it comes to lightweight browsers is Slimjet. This browser is based on the open-source Chromium project, which means it shares a lot of similarities with Google Chrome. But unlike Chrome, Slimjet is designed to be lightweight and fast.

Slimjet also comes with a number of features that make it a more complete browsing experience, such as an ad blocker, screenshot tool, and form filler.

Opera GX(Special Gamer Edition)

Another lightweight contender on the list is Opera GX. It’s a special version of the Opera

a browser that’s designed specifically for gamers.

It comes with features like CPU and RAM usage limiters, so you can ensure that your games always have enough resources available.

It also has an integrated Twitch viewer and Discord support, making it a great choice for gamers who want to stay connected with their friends while they game.

Microsoft Edge

Last but not least is Microsoft Edge. This is the newest browser from Microsoft, and it’s based on the Chromium open-source project. That means it shares a lot of similarities with Google Chrome, including its use of RAM.

However, Microsoft Edge is designed to be more efficient with its use of RAM, and it also comes with a number of features that make it a more complete browsing experience.

For example, Edge has an integrated ad blocker, built-in note-taking capabilities, and support for reading PDFs.

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox isn’t a bad pick either when it comes to browsers that use less RAM. In fact, in some cases, it can even outperform Opera when it comes to memory usage.

Mozilla has also been working hard to make sure that Firefox is more efficient with its use of RAM, and as a result, the latest version of Firefox uses 30% less RAM than it did just a few years ago.

Brave Browser

While Brave isn’t the most popular browser out there, it’s definitely one of the best when it comes to efficiency. That’s because Brave is designed to be a lightweight and fast browser that doesn’t sacrifice features.

Brave comes with an integrated ad blocker, built-in support for Tor, and a number of other privacy-focused features.

It’s also one of the only browsers that come with a basic cryptocurrency wallet built-in, so you can easily send tips or make micropayments without having to install any additional software.

Torch Browser

Finally, we have Torch Browser. This is another browser that’s based on the Chromium project, but it focuses more on providing a better media streaming experience.

Torch Browser comes with integrated support for popular streaming sites like YouTube, Netflix, and Pandora. It also has a built-in torrent client, so you can easily download and share files with others.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Low-Resource Browsers

Now that we’ve taken a look at some of the best low-resource browsers, let’s discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of using them.

Advantages

  1. They use less RAM, which means your computer will run more smoothly.
  2. They tend to be more lightweight and fast, obviously, who wouldn’t like a snappy internet experience, right?
  3. They often come with built-in features that other browsers don’t have, such as ad-blockers and privacy-focused features.

Disadvantages

  1. They may not be as fully featured as some of the more popular browsers.
  2. They may not have all the bells and whistles that some users want.
  3. They may not be compatible with all websites and web-based applications.

Final Verdict

So, What Browser Uses The Least Ram? Well, it depends on your needs. If you’re looking for a lightweight and fast browser that doesn’t sacrifice features, then I would recommend Brave or Torch.

If you’re looking for a more fully-featured browser that uses less RAM, then I would recommend Opera GX or Microsoft Edge.

And if you’re just looking for a basic and lightweight browser, then any of the options on this list should be good for you. Just remember that each of these mentioned above comes with its own features, so you have to weigh your option and make an educated pick to suit your needs.
