[Solved] MacBook Pro Screen Goes Black When Fully Opened

MacBook Pros are the resilient breed of the Apple family which not only has an awe-inspiring design on the outside but also has one of the most complex, mind-numbing, eye-popping hardware integrated into it.

In other words, it is the epitome of efficiency which has set a standard all across the globe in terms of price-to-value ratio and performance which is palpable even to the least tech-savvy person in the world.

This means Apple is the leading brand on the scoreboard for all the right reasons, however, it is no denying that no matter how well a machine is made, it is still prone to some form of malfunction, one way or another.

To break the ice, today we are going to discuss, shed some light and try to resolve issues like Macbook Pro Screen Going black when fully opened.

So sit back and relax because we are going for a wonderful ride which is full of fruitful results in a positive way for your problem.

Possible Solution for Macbook Pro Screen Goes Black When Fully Opened

There are plenty of ways your display could go dark and we are going to diagnose and address its solution by covering almost all of them.

Solution #1

In older updates such as High Sierra, there is an intentional or unintentional feature (possibly a bug if it’s unintentional) that automatically puts your MacBook to sleep whenever it is booted up from its deep slumber.

As silly as it may sound, when I first faced the issue, I was panicking and pressing all sorts of keys since I thought my precious Macbook died, however, upon pressing the “F2” key which is assigned for brightness tweaking turned on its screen and gave me a sigh of relief.

Try turning up the brightness of your screen to check if it works for you.

Solution #2

Battery issues are rampant with smartphones, Laptops, and MacBooks because the technology behind lithium-ion or Lithium Polymer batteries has not evolved in a good minute.

Chances are, you might be a victim of battery abnormalities. To mend the problem, try hooking your Macbook charger and check if there is any sign of hope left.

If not, then it might be time that you send your Macbook for battery replacement to the Apple Technical Care center.

You can also try your local repair shop, which I won’t really recommend unless and until you are really desperate and out of options.

Solution #3

Moving the lid of your display up and down or giving it a tug may cause it to flicker, in such case, your Macbook might be prone to Low-voltage differential signaling failure which would imply that you have simply landed in the whole host of nightmares revolving around Macbook hardware vulnerabilities.

This sort of failure is very common, especially with the one that has the standard 13 inches display and I hate to admit that you might want to reach out to the Technical support team, as fixing it yourself is virtually out of the equation.

They will replace the backlight power cable or LVDS cable, however, sooner or later you will have to face the same issue again since this problem arises due to hardware imperfection that is lingering on Macbooks released between 2015 and 2018.

Solution #4

There is also a slight chance that your external peripherals have malfunctioned and have been preventing your Macbook from booting up or resulting in a functional display.

It could be your off-brand mice or third-party keyboard or simply a USB that you may have forgotten to unplug from the external USB adapter hub that is connected to your device.

You can also try removing the whole adapter and check if your problem still persists.

Solution #5

Disk permission malfunction can also become a headache sometimes and can result in the complete blackout of your display.

All you have to do is follow the steps given below

  • Go to Utilities in settings
  • Open it and select the partition volume that you want to repair its permission
  • Now, simply click on the First Aid Tab
  • Now click Repair Disk permission, which will repair any abnormalities you may be facing.

Additionally, you can also repair disk permission through the terminal by running the command

“sudo diskutil repairPermissions / “ without the quotes.

Bottom Line

So these were pretty much all the solutions that you could follow in order to fix your “Macbook Pro screen goes black when fully opened” fiasco.

I highly advise you to run diagnostics based on software before you dive deep into the hardware side because that could save you some pennies and time.
