How to Use Headphone Mic on Laptop (Window & Mac)

Today when I saw feedback given on my site, which was written: “How to Use Headphone Mic on Laptop?” So I thought it was essential to answer because many people want to do it, but they can’t do it because they don’t have complete guidance.

Microphones and earphones rely on a vibrating diaphragm to convert Sound to electric signals and back to sound so you can talk to audio on your earphone. Reused earphones are less audio quality than purpose-built microphones but can be significantly enhanced with audio settings in the monitor.

Basics of Earphone Mic Usage

Although earphones and microphones work according to the same concept, they are also designed for good work. You can use your earphones as microphones and not good ones, and neither can your Microphone make a good speaker.

The majority of earphones and earbuds have a 4-band TRRS-connector (three isolators divided by four sections) with an extra audio channel such as a microphone input connected to the stereo output. At the same time, TRRS-connectors fit well with the built-in Microphone and earphone jacket computers.

A 3.5mm TRRS plug to a three-band 3.5mm microphone input connector can be used on computers with separate microphones and earphone jackets (with three sections separated by two insulators).

Because of design constraints, you must speak loudly to your re-proposed earphones or earbuds to get the Sound from your computer device.

How to Use a Headset Mic on PC With Only One Jack

If you have a choice for your configuration, you also want to change the EQ. Depending on your computer and installed programs, a high-pass filter can be added to eliminate any of the low-frequency bumping that you can anticipate from headphones.

If possible, drown all super low frequencies and raise high frequencies. It gives you the best Sound overall with headphones.

Issues Arising and How to Address Them

If you have taken the steps mentioned above and still cannot use your headphones as a microphone, check to see if you have the following problems:

  • Incorrect configuration
  • Wrong connection
  • Driver issue
  • Headphone problem

Incorrect configuration

If your headset does not fit, it could simply not be the correct audio input system in ‘Sound’ settings to be selected.

To verify that you have the default setting on the correct computer, go to the Control Panel, click the “Sound” icon and choose the “Record” tab in the pop-up window.

Your system should be labeled with a green check, and as its Sound is detected, the green bar on the right should rise.

Wrong connection

A faulty headset or Microphone may be triggered simply by using the wrong port. The positive thing is that most ports on PCs are color-coded to prevent these errors.

Driver issue

Driver error may be an additional trigger for a non-functioning headset. Your sound drivers may be obsolete or incompatible, so you will not use your headset correctly with your device.

One way to deal with this is through the system manager. Only open the Control Panel and choose “Device Manager.” Click ‘Sound, video, and game controllers in the tiny pop-up window that opens.

Select and right-click your computer from the list. In the opening menu, you can either upgrade or reinstall your driver by selecting ‘Scan for hardware changes.’

Headphone issue

If all else fails, see if your headset has any physical problems. If neither of these measures has solved your headset issue, the system itself may be defective.
