How to Charge a Laptop With a Phone in 2024

In this blog post, I will explain how to charge a Laptop With a Phone by using both textual & video guides. As a backup power source, most modern smartphone models can be used as a final charging device. Your mobile battery is less charged than your laptop battery. It leads to some significant disadvantages in the charging process of mobile phones.

Laptops have shipped with a charger since the start of time – or at least since the first laptop computer. These chargers are usually exclusive to their brands and require an AC power source. But what if you don’t have AC power access?

A dead battery will essentially exclude your data if you need any critical information saved on your laptop. We have different options, including ways to break out of the jam and a few long-term fixes.

How to Charge a Laptop With a Phone

The first option is somewhat strange. We usually charge our phones on our laptops. This time, however, our laptop will be charged with our cell phone. It may sound dumb, but it does work.

Today, most modern smartphones have a USB Type-C port that can serve as a power source for your low-battery laptop.

To charge your laptop with your mobile phone, connect both ends of the USB Type C cable to your laptop and mobile phone. Once connected, it should start transferring power from your phone to your laptop automatically.

The disadvantage of using a cell phone to charge your laptop is that power is minimal. Don’t anticipate that your phone will gain much battery life since a laptop needs much more power than a cellphone.

Please remember, this option should be used only as a last resort.

Tips to boost your battery’s charging speed

  • If you turn off your handset, you won’t have to search for Wi-Fi, GPS, or 4G networks. Since the battery is switched off, it just has to charge itself and charges faster than on your computer.
  • You may even place your laptop in aviation mode to speed up the charging process, but note that the monitor is the most significant drain of batteries.
  • Another good piece of advice is to use a suitable adapter and cable for your laptop, which will charge faster if the charger has a higher amperage limit.
  • It would help if you did not use a USB port with a wall plug-in to prevent charging your laptop slower.
  • The cases and covers must be removed, and your laptop will find a cool place. All these are useful because smartphones use lithium-ion batteries that follow the most straightforward principle: a more excellent battery is a better one.
  • Don’t forget accelerator charging!

You can now end your energy crisis with an accelerator. We also have the best two smartphone charging accelerators on the market prepared for you.

How to charge a laptop without a charger?

All I mentioned above for charging was how to charge a laptop with a phone. But now I will tell you some other ways how you can charge your laptop if your laptop charger breaks down.

Use a universal adapter.

Perhaps the most popular cure for your battery woes is a universal adapter. These universal chargers have different tips, so you can probably find one that fits into your laptop’s charging port.

You can also purchase different tips. Some universal adapters can also charge a laptop from a car or other 12V DC power stations.

If connected, the adapter not only powers the laptop but also charges it.

However, if misplaced, tips can cause incorrect voltage and damage to your laptop.

Use a Car Battery

The simple way to do this is to purchase a power inverter. They plug in the cigarette lighter outlet of your car and can run systems with a continuous power of up to 300 watts.

It is not sufficient to operate a power tool, but it is strong enough to operate a laptop. The drawback is to have a big, clunky power inverter somewhere on the floor of your car.

The upside is that it is beginner-friendly, and if you are not working, you can quickly take your laptop in & out of the car.

Another way is to put your laptop hardware in the car. Although this does not allow you to remove it quickly, it’s nice to install your laptop inside the car, at least not without buying a second charger to use in your home.

It is where it gets tricky. Most automotive devices are equipped with an integrated voltage regulator that decreases battery voltage as required.

Laptops are configured to use and have no native AC adapters. But you will need to know what voltage the DC is supposed to accept to hardwire your laptop securely.

Then you will have to wire it into a voltage regulator, which will plug into the fuse box instead of cabling it directly to your fuse box. Don’t forget to set the regulator, or it won’t do you good much.

Use an external laptop battery charger.

An external laptop battery charger is an independent unit that is not connected to your laptop. Instead, you remove the laptop battery, place it on the charger and then plug the charger into a power outlet.

Most external laptop chargers have lights flashing when the battery is charged and then stay steady when the battery is fully charged.

Note that external laptop charges are typically brand-specific, so choose one that suits the specs of your laptop.

How to charge a laptop with USB-C

You can charge your laptop using a USB-C cable if your laptop has a built-in USB-C port; make sure the cable has a plug adaptor (the box-shaped plug at the end of your phone charger that can plug into an outlet). In reality, some laptops use a USB-C cable as the primary charger.

Charging your laptop via USB-C:

  • Plug one end in an outlet of the USB-C cable
  • Connect the other end of the USB-C cord to your computer

That’s it! Easy as a pie as long as you have a USB-C cord connection. But that’s the big issue – what if you don’t have one? Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be simpler to order a USB-C cable than to order a new laptop adapter.

And it may not be possible to stop at a computer store, particularly when you are stuck on a Caribbean Island for the wedding weekend.

Charge Your Laptop Using a Power Bank

Depending on your laptop model, even if you don’t have the official adapter, you might be able to charge one of its USB Type-C ports.

You can use a power bank to charge your laptop, just like how you can charge your smartphone into a power bank when there is no other way to charge it.

But the problem with this method is, while most laptops need power from 8v to 12v, the power banks typically only have five volts to give, which means you need an electricity bank that supports 12v or higher.

The PowerCore+26800mAh PD power bank of Anker is an excellent option for charging your computer as it generates about 20volts of power.

(Note that early generations of USB Type-C laptops do not allow charging.)
