Really? 4k VS 1080p Laptop – The More Dots The More Clarity?

I am a laptop enthusiast and a fanatic for gorgeous displays, which is why the first thing I check for is its display size and resolution.

Because that’s the only thing you would be spending most of the time staring at while you use your laptop and anyone who says otherwise is simply misguiding you.

Now, just like human beings, these portable devices which we call laptops also come in various sizes and refresh rates, however, the most sought resolution nowadays in the laptop industry is 4k and 1080p display, respectively.

This is why, I have taken it upon myself to curate, compare and present a delineation of 4K VS 1080p laptops, revolving around laptops and knowing what sets them apart, how one is better than the other, and vice versa. So, Let’s Find Out In Our Full Review.

A Bit About Preliminaries – Let’s Explore The Composition Of The Canvas (Display):

Not familiar with resolution formats and its jargons? Here is a brief breakdown,

1. Resolution

If you aren’t familiar with the word resolution or have heard of it but don’t have a slight clue what it means, here is a quick rundown.

Apparently, the resolution is the number of vertical and horizontal pixels that are present all over the screen.

So naturally speaking, the more these sets of horizontal and vertical dots, the better and larger resolution you may be getting.

2. Refresh Rate

It is the number of times a screen or display refreshes it in order to produce a moving image otherwise known as Video output.

Typically you would see standard refresh rates locked at 60hz which is optimal for everyday moving watching routine.

However, there are displays being manufactured that are able to deliver up to 300 Hz refresh rate for special purposes like gaming, etc.

3. Aspect Ratio

The aspect ratio or in other words the dimension-specific fiction of a screen, such as the height and width of a square image is 1:1, while the anamorphic is 4:3. The most common and the standard is 16:9.

Here is a comparison video of the same laptop with both displays, one with a 1080p screen and one with a 4k screen. So, you can have a good idea that how much difference is there and whether is it worth the difference, etc. Thanks to Jarrod’sTech for such a helpful video.

4k VS 1080p Laptops, Which One Takes The Crown?

Let’s discuss both of them and know about their strong points:

1. First, we are going to take a jab at 4k resolution laptops.

So here we will talk about the good points and bad points of 4k resolution laptops:

A. The Impeccable Benefits Of A 4k Resolution Screen (Pros):

  • Better Quality Display Output
  • Brighter and vibrant colors
  • Perfect for creators

As mentioned above, the higher the resolution, the easier it would be to deliver a luxurious display output due to the large amounts of pixels located at each row and column that form together in a mesh to produce an image.

Moreover, this also results in better and brighter picture quality which means it’s ideal for curators and artists that want to unleash their creativity with extremely accurate colors, which may look bland on lower resolution screens.

B. The Frowned Upon (Cons):

  • Expensive
  • Not fit for gaming
  • Lower Refresh rate issues

Quality and luxurious rich colors may sound delicious, however, would surely cost you a pretty penny to pay. Since 4k panels are harder to manufacture which is why laptops having 4k resolution won’t be budget-friendly.

On the other hand, if you are a gamer, you may want to steer clear of 4k resolution laptops as they often suffer from locked or lower refresh rates which are not suitable for fast action paced gaming.

Furthermore, a higher number of pixels present also implies your hardware such as graphics card and processor has to work tenfold in order to reproduce acceptable frame rates. So not only are you going to face input lags but you may also have tons of game incompatibility issues while running at 4k due to weaker hardware specifications.

2. Now it’s time for 1080p resolution Laptops.

Now, after knowing the good and bad of 4k resolution laptops, its time to explore the 1080p resolution laptops in detail and know their good and bad points:

A. Sunshine & Rainbows Of 1080p Laptops (Pros):

  • Higher Refresh rates
  • Cheaper
  • Good for Standard use

Laptops with 1080p display have been quite a norm for a long time, especially the gaming lineups for all the right reasons.

As these resolution laptops tend to produce better results in terms of frame rates since their hardware doesn’t struggle to meet the resolution requirements and when it comes to screen tearing features you won’t see any as these screens are clocked anywhere around 120hz to 240hz refresh rates.

And the best part is that they also have anti-screen tearing technology built into them such as Freesync and G-Sync.

Moreover, they are relatively cheaper, so even if you are short on cash, be assured you would be having an amazing deal at your end.

B. The Ugly Side Of 1080p Laptops (Cons):

  • Blurry and shallow Output
  • Questionable Color vibrancy

With lower resolution comes blurry, and dull display output, which may not be as crystal sharp as compared to 4k or even 8k resolution screens.

The trade-off is pretty obvious, however, it is not negligible enough to be ignored, especially that often embarks on graphics designing and 3D modeling projects where display quality is the utmost priority.

On the other hand, color accuracy is also a serious matter of concern because otherwise having an imperfect color gamut would imply creators have to struggle in order to produce decent results that are close to being precise.

In Conclusion

So there you have it, I have laid every piece of information you would need regarding 4k vs 1080p laptops in a straightforward fashion so you would have a precise and accurate view( no pun intended).

Go ahead and weigh in the pros and cons and see for yourself which one is better suitable for your daily use and perspective.

As always, have a nice day!
